A Bit of Housing Etiquette
As a host, please make sure to let your guests know what type of accommodations that you have for them(bed, futon, air matress, floor, etc.), what you will provide (linens, towels, etc) and what they need to bring (pillows, blankets, etc).
Getting Around
Hosting does not mean transporting, unless you are willing to offer this to your guests. If offering transportation, please make sure that you are clear about your transportation obligations for the weekend (rides to the airport, sight seeing or dances) that way there is no misunderstanding when your guests arrive.
If your guests decides to rent a car to get around, please make sure they know where to park. Some buildings may have secured areas, permit only or limited street parking and any information is helpful.
What’s For Dinner?
Guests will expect to take care of their own meals, but may look to you for advice on our local cuisine. If you like to cook and want to offer a meal or snack for your guests, they will most likely be your new best friend, but please also ask them about dietary restriction.
Offering to take them to the grocery store at the beginning of the weekend is a great idea, so they can stock up with whatever snacks they need. There are also the usual late night hang out spots that we hit after dances for food, drinks and socializing.
