Yoshi Uemura started doing balboa in 2003. He won/placed, and was finalist for, a number of competition such as Rhythmic Art Festival, Northwest Bal Fest and All Balboa Weekend. He taught various workshops in the US and internationally. His teaching is focused on techniques to help students create their own styles.

Yoshi has an elegant, smooth flow to his Balboa. Combining his love for Balboa and thirst for expanding the parameters of the dance, he has come up with Balboa Nuevo.
