Orange County, CA
Before becoming the elegant dancer she is today, Laura Keat was a well-seasoned competitive horse-back rider and instructor to riders doing Show Jumping just outside of Denver, CO. Riding horses is where she discovered that connection, balanced teamwork and awareness of attitude are keys to any successful partnership.
Drawn to swing dancing by the partnering, freedom of expression and the improvisation of jazz music, Laura fell in love with Swing dances such as the Lindy Hop, Balboa & Collegiate Shag all based on the unique bond that two dancers share. Laura took her knowledge of forming strong partnerships and applied them to the partner dancing of the vintage swing era. The unexpected surprises of power and grace that can be found in swing dancing is the same thing that drives Laura to new heights. Add in a cheering crowd and Ms. Keat will show you how to swing out!
Hollywood has even taken note of Laura’s personal style and professionalism offering her a staring roll in the nation-wide commercial for the “Jitterbug telephone” ad campaign. She has also be seen as the mohawked, Lindy Hop, chick on ABC’s hit dance show “Dancing With The Stars” in 2007.
Her hard work is seen in the national titles she holds, such as National Jitterbug Champion as well as the US Open Fast Dance Champion and more. By far her proudest achievement was performing a remake of the famous fast and acrobatic Lindy Hop routine, “The Congaroos” in the Manhattan Center at “Frankie95? a Memorial event for the legendary, Frankie Manning.
Her dedicated heart and studious mind work in perfect harmony as Laura moves with grace and style uniquely her own that has gained her the attention from dancers across the globe. Hoping to inspire a crowd and keep them smiling with her entertaining performances is her idea of a perfect dance! Sharing the joy and excitement of swing dancing with an eager crowd is a rush that keeps Laura pushing forward in her beloved craft.
